The "She Taxi" is a 24x7 service that can be booked through mobile phones and online. Women travelling alone or with families can dial the customer care center which will provide them with a unique identification code and the vehicle number on their mobile phones. The "She Taxis" come with multiple security systems, which include a control room that tracks the taxis in real-time using GPS, personal emergency alert switches for drivers and passengers inside the car and a similar safety alert app is installed on the mobile phones of the women drivers. Popular actress Manju Warrier, the brand ambassador of "She Taxi", flagged off the service at a ceremony here. What makes "She Taxi" such a wonderful project is that it is a means of livelihood for a set of women and a safe and secure mode of transport for another, the actress said. The first five women drivers of the taxi fleet ,which were sponsored by Muthoot Fincorp Ltd were handed over the keys by Warrier.
I asked her if she wanted to come with me and her instant question was, 'Will the press be there?' I said yes and she said no. So far, she has managed by not talking to the media, but I told her, 'Let's see what you will do when your son becomes an actor.' And she said, 'I will manage even then.' But, surprisingly, she told me, 'Please get me their number as I would like to go there. I used to go there before we got married to ask for you in my mannat.' I was taken aback as she had not told me that before.
So tell us her story?
She used to live on Napeansea Road. We dated each other for 10 years before we got married. She used to be working those days and I was not working and would come in a bus to meet her. Financially, in a way, she used to support me those days, so consciously, I was delaying marrying her. She said it was at that time that she would come to the Mahalakshmi temple to ask for me. In 1983, Woh Saat Din and Mashaal released. But it is only in 1985, once I signed Meri Jung that I proposed to her and said, 'Now, can I marry you?'
Do you believe in God?
I am truly secular, but we all believe in what Sunita believes. She believes in all the religious things and basically, we just follow her. Throughout Navratras, we all go vegetarian. My son is basically international and so, there is a lot of stress at home for turning vegetarian for nine days. But he, like all of us, has to and is given no choice.
Which of your kids is most religious?
Sonam is even more than me in every which way. For Raanjhanaa, before and after the film, she went to all the temples. If we have to wake up for a puja, the person always first to be there is Sonam. Rhea comes when 75% of the puja is over and Harsh comes when 95% is over. I remember earlier, our puja room used to pass through his room and so when the panditji would come, he would be sleeping and hated it. Now, we have made a separate entrance to go to the puja room. But, I know he is going to change when his career starts. That's when you become selfish and you start praying for yourself. I have always believed that there are more talented and hard-working people than I am and while I might have done my work, finally it's only the divine power that makes it.
